Research consistently has shown that student engagement in all types of active learning leads to improved learning.  Project-based learning is a gold standard of active learning and ideally involves students in real-world projects solutions utilizing creativity and innovation.  There a number of different models for embedding projects within STEM curricula but important to all of those models is industry or community involvement.   Panelists will provide their perspectives, both academic and industry, on how best to engage industry in successful student project generation and implementation.

Workshop #1b: Leveraging STEM Bootcamps and Certifications

Pertiwi

This workshop is focused on future-proofing through rapid skills training by leveraging bootcamps and certifications in STEM upskilling. Since technology trends are inevitable, there is a growing focus on the generation of new sources of STEM-trained employment. Bootcamps and certification programs have become a global phenomenon being present in emerging economies with active start-up ecosystems. Furthermore, they are expanding beyond the ICT sector to other key priority areas such as manufacturing. Given their role in the creation of low-entry tech jobs and beyond, a better understanding of their potential is critical for government and higher education policy makers who are seeking to increase employment opportunities in their economies.

Workshop #1c: Higher Education Partnership Initiative Info Session

VIP Room

In partnership with USAID Indonesia through Arizona State University (ASU), HEPI strengthens partnerships between U.S. and Indonesian institutions to improve Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs in several Indonesian higher education institutions (HEIs) to meet international standards and industry demand. HEPI supports Indonesian HEIs through a consortium of university, government, and industry partners working to develop industry-relevant curriculum, to reach international accreditation standards, and increase course credit recognition between U.S. and Indonesian Universities. Over the course of the HEPI project, experts from academia, government, and industry will come together and explore topics of interest to our Indonesian Hub and Affiliate Universities. These topics include leveraging industry partnerships to improve curricular standards, faculty development in the domain of 21st century skills, accreditation, and international recognition, as well as academic readiness workshops for students interested in studying in the United States.

HEPI are proud to support Indonesian higher education in this manner, however, we realize that we cannot do this alone. This session will introduce HEPI and its core objectives and open the opportunity for Indonesian universities to apply and become our Affiliate University partner, in addition to the current 19 Indonesian university partners.
